TABLA PLAYER

SHUBH was born in 1987 in a musical family of tabla maestro pt. kishan maharaj as his grandson. His father pt. vijay shankar is a renowned kathak dancer, naturally shubh got music in his blood by his both families. From a very young age shubh used to thump mini tabla sets and hence in small age of “one” his father devoted him in the feet of his maternal grand father pt kishan maharaj the most perfect hands to show the correct path to the small tabla player.

As the heritage passes on, shubh formaly became his grandpa’s “ganda bandh shaagird” in 1993 and joined the traditional family chain of pt.kanthe maharaj.


The sadhna and practice began and the time changed the relation of grandpa and grandson into teacher and pupil (guru and shishya).
In 2000 shubh gave his first tabla solo performance as a child up-coming tabla player at a tender age of12 and after that he got the previlage to play at the big stages of Indian classical music festivals of India with his guru ji and alone touring big cities as kolkata, new delhi, varanasi, ahemdabad, jalandhar to name a few…

He is lucky to perform in front of maestros such as pt. Ravi shankar, ud. amjad ali khan, pt. rajan sajan mishra, pt. vishwa mohan bhatt and got there blessings. He is also appreciated and blessed by senior tabla players like ud. Zakir hussain, pt. kumar bose and pt. anindo chatterjee.
Also he got previlage to accompany padma vibhushan pt. shiv kumar sharma and ud. Amjad ali khan.!!

He is a good soloist and other hand a nice accompanist.
Specialty of the young tabla player is the pure BENARAS GHARANA style of playing. The style of pt. kishan maharaj can be easily recognized in him. Inspite his guru is his idol and godfather,he also tries to follow the essence of pt. sharda sahay, pt. pooran maharaj (uncle), pt. kumar bose and pt. sukhvinder singh.


Shubh is an ambitious, hard working, firm determined, humble and polite upcoming tabla player with lots of hopes.
The aim is only to promote benaras gharana tabla style of playing as much as it could be and take the tradition of pt. kanthe maharaj and pt. kishan maharaj more further………
